Good Food News - Hawaii Hopes to Ban Plastics
You don’t think of paradise as having a plastic problem. That’ s not how paradise should work should it? Our Sunshine State, often considered paradise, is making sure that plastic doesn’t become a problem.
Hawaii would be the first state in the U.S. to ban most plastics at fast-food and full-service restaurants under legislation that aims to cut down on waste that pollutes the ocean.
This is an ambitious proposal that would prohibit restaurants, stores, wholesalers and government agencies from distributing and using plastic drink bottles, utensils, stirring sticks, bags, and straws.
This is a strong step forward and one that we can all applaud. Here is hoping that more states take on this green idea as we tackle one of the most insidious environmental problems we encounter today, single use plastics.
