The Something About Food? Blog

This is the Something About Food? Blog, where Chef Chris Clarke discusses new podcast episodes, travel, restaurants, and more!

A blog about food, family, and travel by the mostly-vegan Chef Chris Clarke.

Shell Yes!

Peter Stein is bringing back the centuries-old tradition of farming oysters off the Long Island Sound with his company Peeko Oysters. He’s as passionate about what he’s doing for the waterways as he is about his crop. We say “Shell Yes!” to that.

Peeko Oysters is a farm, though not in the traditional sense. And Peter Stein is their head “farmer” and founder.

We gabbed about the best ice cream truck treats, street food in South East Asia, and how he is growing clean water on his farms here in “Shell Yes!”, Episode 42 of the “Something About Food?” Podcast.

Since graduating from Penn in 2004, Peter has had a rather atypical career. He started out with Accenture in business management consulting, then moved on to spend 7+ years in the education space. First as a classroom teacher, then doing business development for a couple of educational software/technology companies. For the last 2+ years, he has been building out his oyster farm. These oysters hail from half-way round the world. They were taken from the waters off of Opua, NZ. I’m planning on trying some of Peeko’s as they are closer to home!
