Take the Cake
When I heard her speak at a podcast convention, I knew I had to chat with NPR’s Nikki Silva. She has spent years at a dream job of mine, finding food and community in seemingly out of the way places.
She is one half of the radio production team “The Kitchen Sisters”. She was a full-on delight as we chatted about communal living, George Foreman Grills feeding the homeless and how her “Heritage cake” is everyone’s favorite dessert on “Take the Cake”, Episode 41 of the “Something About Food?” Podcast.
Nikki Silva partners with Davia Nelson on The Kitchen Sisters radio production team. They are the Peabody Award-winning producers of hundreds of stories for The Kitchen Sisters Present podcast and NPR. Hidden Kitchens, their NPR series and book about secret, unexpected, below the radar cooking, details how communities come together through food. You can also find them on Twitter @kitchensisters and Instagram @kitchensisters.
