Clarke Wanders: The World
How a Very Sober, Mostly Vegan, Spinster Chef
Wandered a Welcoming World for a Year
Have you ever thought about chucking it all and just heading out there? Here is the story of my trip around the world! I share my almost year-long journey with stories, pictures, and recipes from the places I explored. Food and travel are personal, and I learned a lot along the way. It is all here: how I sold everything that I had, wandered, got lost, found my way again, discovered, ate, cooked and of course shared marvelous and delicious food.
The working title I wanted for this book was “Eat, Fuck, Run”—though to be truthful, “Eat, Nope, and Occasionally” would have been slightly more accurate. What follows is the story of one woman’s experiences traveling the world for a year in search of good food, good people, and a good time.
You were expecting enlightenment? Soul cleansing? You’ve come to the wrong place. This is simply how my life works. Missteps and misadventures abound. Hopefully, I can entertain you for a while, and maybe offer a tiny bit of inspiration.
Food consumes me as much as I consume it. It goes so far beyond hunger that it can only be classified as a personal obsession. The purpose of this book is to share recipes and tales that seduce and entice you, so we're in this together, gentle reader; my passion will be yours.
Who the fuck am I to know what you enjoy or what you are interested in? It’s a lofty goal and may sound arrogant. Even pretentious. Food is personal. That is what I do know. So let's start there. Let's you and I get personal while I tell you all about this crazy-ass journey and all the ridiculously sexy food I ate, cooked, and shared.
I ate my way around 19 countries and there are recipes from each one. Malaysian Peanut Pancakes and Moroccan Vegetable Tagine with Golden Cous Cous and Neopolitan Fried Pizzas and more. There are truly easy recipes and some that are way more involved. I hope you’ll try all of them. And I understand if you just want to look at the tasty pictures. Buy the book and use it as you see fit!
I walked, wandered and worked everywhere I went. I was in cites, in small villages, on farms, near oceans and up in the mountains. Old and new friends gave me a place to stay or I bunked in hostels, AirBnB’s and occasionaly a hotel. The number one thing I learned as I wandered about is that the world is a truly wonderful, kind place. Join me.
